ConfigMgr 2012 R2 SP1 – Client and Console Upgrade

After you upgraded your ConfigMgr to the new Version you need to upgrade both the Clients and the deployed consoles for your IT staff.

Console upgrade

In the Installation Media go to [SCCMISO]SMSSETUP\BIN\I386 and copy both “AdminConsole.msi” and “ConsoleSetup.exe” to an Application folder for deployment.

Then you need to create a package or application  with content to deploy the new console.

ConfigMgr Task sequence fails due to multiple restart updates.

Update*  issue was fixed with SP2/R2 SP1.

A few weeks back I started to build a new build and capture task sequence for a customer and stumbled over this this problem…again. I had a script to look for those nasty updates from Alex Verboon which works fine if you have just a few Software Update Groups but is rather uncomfortable if you have many. Storage Spaces Direct – SSD² – redirect to local storage for testing

After the Ignite Session about the new storage spaces direct feature in Windows Server 2016 TP2 I created 4 node cluster on my newly created 2016 TP2 Hyper-V stand-alone host and added it to VMM 2016 TP to play little bit with it, and I discovered that I can manage and even deploy VMs to the clustered file share. It is not that performant but it works 😉

How did I get there, you ask?

  1. Create a 2016 TP2 template
  2. Deploy 4 VMs for the SSD Cluster
  3. Add a few disks to each VM
  4. Create a new fileserver cluster in VMM
  5. Create shares and assign them to you Hyper-V hosts
  6. Done

ConfigMgr 2012 R2 SP1 has been released!

Microsoft released, the announced SP1 for ConfigMgr 2012 R2 and SP2 for ConfigMgr 2012.

It is available for download at the evaluation site from Microsoft, you can find them here:

You have to download both files! SC2012_SP2_Configmgr_SCEP and SC2012_R2_SP1_Configmgr, the names are a bit misleading…
